Donald Laing came in for his first lesson with me last week.
We worked on getting his hips into the right place, as well as getting his right shoulder closer to the target at p4. Donald really took to the advice and by the end of the lesson, had gained 10 mph with his 6 iron.
That speed translated to gaining 40 yards in total distance! What an incredible improvement.
Donald will be coming back on Friday for his second lesson, where we will be working on hand depth.

Robin Barr came in for a fitting the other day and after a few hits on the launch monitor, we knew that we could make some corrections that would have an exciting effect on his game.
We fitted him into some amazing JPX921 Hot Metal Pro Irons, bent the lie angle 2 degrees upright, and added extra-stiff shafts which were 1 inch longer than standard, with midsize plus 4 grips.
The result? He'll now be hitting his 7 iron into greens where he used to hit a 5 iron. Straighter shots with 20 yards of extra distance (and a much happier golfer)!
As you can tell, there's a whole lot that goes into a fitting, but we'll take care of the technical stuff and make sure you get the right equipment in your hands! One of the most overlooked aspects of your equipment is the only thing that connects you to your club, your grip!
According to a study done by Golf.com where 1440 golfers took part, it found that 90% of the golfers were using the wrong size grip for their hand size. They also concluded that the wrong size grip can cost you up to 5 shots per round due to certain swing faults that can creep in!
Especially in these hot and sweaty conditions, it's important to get your grips changed at least once every 18 months (if you play once a week) to make sure you have full control of your club. Malcolm McAlpine, one of my star pupils, recently completed a three lesson package where we set some goals and worked on one or two things. He then went out this weekend and played an unbelievable round of golf scoring 47 points at Tarbert Golf Club! Amazing stuff, Malcolm!
